An Schenectady High School staffer joined two students as this week’s winners in the Schenectady High Lit Mag’s poetry month contest.

Arthur Taylor, the nurse at the Freshmen Academy, became the first staffer to enter the top three poets of the week. He is joined by student Athena Rhodius and second-time winner Ryden Durante.

The poems were chosen Monday by the Literary Magazine advisors. The poets now will be considered for the top three grand prizes at the end of the month.

All three poems are published on the Lit Mag page on the school’s digital news website. You can find these poems, other student creative writing and student-written school news articles at www.shsphoenix.com.

The Lit Mag is choosing weekly winners to publish each week of April in honor of National Poetry Month.

To submit your own poem, email your original poem on a Google Doc to one of the three Lit Mag advisers – Mr. Mergil (Main Campus), Ms. Hughes (Freshman Academy) or Mr. Gaboury (Center City/Proctors). All poems must be the writer’s own work. No AI-generated or AI-assisted work will be accepted.
