The Schenectady school district announced on November 14 that the school report cards have been updated with some new changes. The updates include “associated skills,” which shows student punctuality of assignments, keeping agreements and class engagement.
The Schenectady school district board changed the grading policy so grades show what students really know, while also keeping good behavior and classroom skills scored separately.
“Nothing is being removed from the traditional report card,” explains an instructional video on Superintendent Carlos M. Cotto, Jr.’s Weekly Superintendent’s Update.
If any students have any questions, they can start by asking a teacher, and if any parents/guardians have any questions they can go on the Schenectady School district website.
For elementary school (pre k- 5), report cards will be sent home with students on November 20, and for grades 6-12, report cards will be mailed home on November 20.
On Nov. 26, the district stated that report cards should be in mailboxes the week of Dec. 1. Parents can access the report card in the Parent Portal.
The Associated skills section is to show students’ efforts and habits, according to district information on the report card redesign. This will help parents/guardians know their child’s behavior, how they are doing in school, and if they understand the work or need help.
