Several King Community School teachers and staff were recognized at the Schenectady CSD board meeting on November 1st for their heroic efforts in saving a colleague’s life.

On Oct. 20, five school employees worked together including using an automated external defibrillator (AED) to rescue their co-worker.

The staff recognized were Instructional Supervisor Joshua Bate, Social Worker Asha Evans, ACE teacher Connor McCagg, Security Monitor Matt Gardner and paraprofessional Xavier Cruz.

Superintendent Anibal Soler Jr. in his brief said, “We are … grateful to the entire King school faculty and staff for the way they responded and supported one another.”

Schenectady City Mayor Gary McCarthy and state Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara presented proclamations to the employees and the school district recognized them with certificates of appreciation.

The brief did not provide the name of the rescued teacher or their condition.
