I have to start this essay with me clarifying that Black History Month isn’t to be understood by the white majority.
It’s not our job to make white people understand our deep rooted history.

They fought and they prayed and they cried and they woke
to reality - in which they saw fragility yet malleability
a road they could pave
a future with no slaves
a fight made for the brave
those chains...
